What MCS certification means
MCS is the UK quality scheme most often required for export tariffs and many incentive applications. Here is what it covers, and what you should receive at handover.

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) sets standards for small-scale renewable installations, including solar PV. An MCS-certified installation is carried out by a certified contractor, using products that meet the scheme rules, with a certificate issued when the work is complete.
BlankSolar is MCS-certified and fully insured. That is how we install, not a label we add afterwards.
Why it matters to you
Energy suppliers commonly ask for an MCS certificate before they accept a Smart Export Guarantee application. Many grant and incentive schemes do the same. Without it, you can still have panels on the roof, but you may be blocked from tariffs and schemes that require certified work.
MCS is also the paperwork trail for the products fitted: what was installed, where, and to which standard. Manufacturer warranties and our own workmanship terms sit alongside that, and we set those out at contract stage.
What handover should include
- The MCS certificate once the system is commissioned
- Equipment details and test results
- Monitoring access where the inverter or battery provides it
- A plain explanation of how to register for export with a supplier
If a scheme also needs serial numbers or an installer declaration, we provide the technical information they ask for. Approval of any grant is decided by the scheme operator, not by us.
If you are comparing quotes
Ask who will be on site, whether the install will be MCS certified, and when you will receive the certificate. Those are reasonable questions. Our solar panel installers page sets out how we work, or you can speak to the team on 01376 297267.
